As Believers, we are like crew members on a navy ship who operate under the authority of the Captain (Jesus Christ). We need to obey orders (commandments) from the Captain to ensure our endeavors are successful (in the long run).
In Proverbs 16:25 "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" - NJKV. That's why we need to enquire of God (your Captain) on what to do at times (every aspect of our life), so as to avoid moving out of His Will for our lives.
The very moment you proclaimed the "I accept Jesus as my Lord and personal Saviour" confession, is the day you became a crew member on Jesus' ship (your lives aren't yours any longer).
Crew members:
- forsake their will for the Captain (Luke 14:33)
- do as they've been commanded (John 13:35)
- use their skills, expertise, education, and talents for the good of the ship (2 Peter 1:3)
Never look back, because we are not fit for His Kingdom the moment we do. Luke 9:62.
This is a race that has been set before us and His Grace is sufficient to see us to the finish line. 2 Corinthians 12: 9.
Let's be like Paul (an Apostle), who having persevered (through the storm, waves, hurricane, and tides), said "I have fought the GOOD fight, I have FINISHED the race, I have KEPT the Faith" - 2 Timothy 4: 7 (NJKV).
Jesus (your Captain) holds the ULTIMATE authority and responsibility of the vessel (you) and ALL those on board (other believers), if you let Him lead you.
